Ice and strawberries

The first week of January I took a trip to the Aosta Valley, in the north of Italy, located near the French border. The region is famous for one of the largest national parks, skiing resorts, and, of course, Italy=good food.

A Secret Window

Once a week, I turn off my phone, my computer, iPad etc. and I go for a walk. A couple hours of complete disconnection do wonders for your sanity. It’s sad to think that going for a walk, completely alone, just you and your thoughts, is a thing of the past. I do my best thinking in these moments, everything else can wait. Unfortunately, this time I cheated a little bit. I came across a beautiful canal, a “secret” canal in fact, that locals will brag about.
My personal challenge for you is to take a walk, once a week, completely alone. You can stop for a coffee, sit on a park bench, and disconnect from outside worries (maybe even take a quick picture if the opportunity is too beautiful to pass up).

Why my iPhone is the only camera I need.

When I started traveling, I couldn’t afford a good camera. I still can’t. I felt like I was wasting so many opportunities to take the perfect shot. Yet, as I go through my photo albums, I realize that I did just fine after all. Maybe a good picture doesn’t always depend on award winning quality, or the right angle – but the memories behind the camera. Each of these photographs (although highly amateur) resonate with me. They take me back to those moments. The smell of strong coffee engulfing the narrow Italian streets, the sound of firecrackers after a football match, the sight of a church on the Spanish seaside. You don’t always have to go looking for beauty in order to find it. Sometimes it just creeps up on you, as you’re lost in the moment.

Deserted Spanish Beaches

These photos were taken in Mallorca, on a beach called Cala Pi. If you find yourself on this magnificent island in April or May, you may find yourself completely alone, surrounded by beautiful rock formations, a serene sunset, and a sense of peace. That’s me in the last one!
